Sheikh Zayed Mosque tours at a glance
There are four ways to see the mosque with a guide or a plan. The mosque runs free public cultural tours at set times. You can book a private cultural tour at least 24 hours ahead. A separate night visit called Sura works with a multimedia device. And tour companies sell day trips that include transport, often from Dubai.
The free public tour does not make the general entry free. Visitors still pay the entry fee, which is AED 10 for visitors from abroad in 2026. Check whether a day trip includes that fee before you compare prices.

Guided tour: how to join the public cultural tour
What to do on the day.
Meeting point and timing
The tours start on the east side. Plan to arrive about 15 minutes early, and find the starting point before the tour begins. Places are not guaranteed, so do not arrive at the last minute.
Friday
On Fridays the public tours run at 11:00 and 17:00, with no midday tour. The mosque is open for visitors from 09:00 to 11:30 and again from 14:30.
Opening hours โRamadan
During Ramadan the public tours run Saturday to Thursday at 11:00 and 13:00, and not on Fridays. The schedule for Ramadan 2027, expected to begin around 8 February 2027, should be checked closer to the date.
Private tours and the night visit
A private cultural tour is part of the registration process and needs at least 24 hours of notice. The Sura night visit is a different product: you walk with a multimedia device rather than a person.
The mosque at night โChoosing between a day trip and the free tour
The free tour is short and covers the mosque only. A day trip adds transport and usually more stops, which suits a visit from Dubai. If you are staying in Abu Dhabi and want the mosque as one stop among several, the public tour plus the entry fee is cheaper, and the city tour page shows what else fits into a day.
What to bring
Bring your entry registration or ID, suitable clothing and comfortable shoes. The walk across the courtyard and between the routes adds up, and the pale marble reflects the sun, so sunglasses help in the daytime.
What to wear on a mosque tour
Women wear loose, opaque clothing to the ankles, sleeves to the wrists and a covering that hides all the hair. Men avoid transparent, tight or sleeveless tops, and fully covered legs are recommended. Clothing with unsuitable drawings or slogans should stay at the hotel. Bring suitable clothes of your own and do not count on rental.
Inside, keep your voice low and your phone silent. Private photos are fine at the marked photo stops. Professional filming needs a permit. Do not count on bringing water into the building. Drink before you enter and follow the staff.

Sheikh Zayed Mosque tours: frequently asked questions
Are the guided tours at the Sheikh Zayed Mosque free?
The public cultural tours are free of charge. That does not make the general entry free, so budget for the entry fee as well. See the tickets page.
Which languages do the public tours use?
English and Arabic. Do not plan on a free German tour. If you want another language, look at the language listed in a day trip description before you book.
How long does a tour take?
The public tour usually lasts 30 to 45 minutes and can run up to 60. Do not plan a tight schedule around it. Allow extra time for the entry check and the walk from the visitor centre.
Do I need to book a public cultural tour?
The tours run at set times and start on the east side. Places cannot be promised, so arrive early. A private tour needs booking at least 24 hours ahead.
Can I join a tour on Friday?
Yes, at 11:00 and 17:00. There is no midday tour on Fridays, and during Ramadan there are no public tours on Fridays.
