Best time to visit Abu Dhabi at a glance
The best time to visit Abu Dhabi for most people is the cooler stretch from December to February. Daytime highs then sit in the mid-20s °C. From June to September the average daily high is above 40 °C, which makes outdoor queues and walks across the mosque courtyard hard work.
The mosque itself is open all year, but Ramadan changes the hours and the public tours. The table below shows measured temperatures, not a forecast. Plan your day around the heat and the opening hours.

Temperature and rain by month

Highs and lows are monthly averages of the daily extremes. The airport station is not at the mosque, so the courtyard can feel different. Evenings are cooler than the daytime high, but by how much depends on the day. For most visitors, December to February is the most comfortable window, and November and March work if you plan for warmth.

Season by season
What each part of the year means for a mosque visit.
December to February
The mildest days, with highs from 24.2 to 27.2 °C in 2025. This is the easiest time for the courtyard and for a late afternoon visit. See the Sheikh Zayed Mosque tours for guided options.
March, April and November
Warm to hot, with highs from 31.2 to 38.1 °C. Start in the morning or come late in the afternoon, and carry water to the entrance. The airport station had 0 mm of rain in these months in 2025.
May to October
Hot. From June to September the average daily high is above 40 °C. Choose the first slot after opening at 09:00 or the evening, and keep time outdoors short.
Best time of day for the mosque
The hour matters almost as much as the month.
Morning
The mosque opens at 09:00, and the temperature is lowest then. On a regular day public cultural tours start at 11:00 and 13:00, and a tour takes about 30 to 45 minutes. Arrive about 15 minutes early and find the meeting point on the east side first.
Late afternoon and evening
The last entry is at 20:00 on regular days, and the mosque closes at 20:30. The 17:00 tour is a good way to see the building in softer light. Around ten rectangular reflecting pools surround the building, with nearly 7,000 square meters of water, and they catch the evening light. See the evening and night views for more.
Fridays
Fridays have two visiting windows, 09:00–11:30 with last entry at 11:00, then 14:30–20:30 with last entry at 20:00. The main prayer hall can close to tourists for a time around midday. Plan Friday visits for the morning or from mid-afternoon.
Ramadan and the mosque
Hours and tours change during the holy month.
| Period | Regular days | Friday |
|---|---|---|
| Outside Ramadan | 09:00–20:30, last entry 20:00 | 09:00–11:30 and 14:30–20:30 |
| Ramadan, first 20 days | 09:00–18:00 and 21:30–01:00 | 14:30–18:00 and 21:30–01:00 |
| Ramadan, last 10 days | 09:00–18:00 | 14:30–18:00 |
During Ramadan, public cultural tours run Saturday to Thursday at 11:00 and 13:00, with none on Friday. Outside Ramadan the start times are 11:00, 13:00 and 17:00 daily, and on Friday 11:00 and 17:00. Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin around February 8, 2027, with Eid al-Fitr around March 10, 2027. Both dates are provisional, and the schedule for that year may differ, so check the opening hours before you travel.
The lighting also depends on the calendar. The projected clouds on the walls and domes are brighter near the full moon, which matters if you plan an evening visit. See the mosque at night.
